History

1971 - 2012
42 Years and Still On the Move

Southwest Free Will Baptist Church has a very rich history. It had its beginning with prayer meetings at the Woodbrook Apartments Party House, but the actual organizational meeting took place at South Franklin Elementary School, now known as Harmon Elementary, on Frank Road.

From there, Pastor Bill Pitts and Greater Columbus FWB Church, permitted us to use their facilities for Saturday night and Sunday afternoon services. While there, God continued to bless our effort, by adding more people to our church family. We continued to pray for a permanent place that we could call "home".

One day, we received a call from Brother Roma Skeens, who lived on Greenleaf Road. Brother Skeens told us that he and his wife were getting older, and would like to attend a church close by. He believed the Lord had directed him to us. Brother Skeens donated the property to build the church.

A building program began - the windows and pews were bought and donated by members of the church. Through much labor by men and women, we soon had our church complete.

The church has grown over the years, and under Pastor John Meade's leadership, we were blessed to build a Fellowship Hall, add an extension to the church sanctuary and a parking lot expansion to provide ample parking. Pastor John has always said, "When there is a job to do, we get it done!"

We have seen many people come to know the Lord and take membership with us. The fellowship, throughout our church, has been so special. The Spirit of God is in our services, and in our Educational Department. To Him, we give thanks for always being there, and for the security to know He always will be, as long as we continue "on the move for Christ"!
